To focus the scientific community's attention on topical issues of intercultural communication, a conference was organised at RSMU by the Department of Foreign Languages with a Russian Language Course.
The conference was attended by students, undergraduates, residents and scientists from 14 countries: Russia, Belarus, China, Spain, Kazakhstan, etc. Welcome speeches were made by Igor Suchkov, Vice-Rector for Research and Innovative Development, Mariya Gordova, Vice-Rector for Extracurricular Activity and International Issues, and Lyazat Duyasembekova, Assistant Professor of KRMU Language Disciplines Department, Doctor of Philological Sciences (Kazakhstan, Almaty).
Mariya Gordova emphasised the importance of present or would-be medical specialists involvement in studying intercultural communication and thanked the organisers of the conference for the opportunity to discuss up-to-date issues of the topic that was more urgent than ever.
Lyazat Duysembekova noted that integrative processes of the modern world had also affected education. According to her, training representatives of different cultures at one university requires the creation of a certain communicative basis of its educational space, which will contribute to the development of intercultural communication skills of students.
The following issues were discussed at the breakout sessions:
- psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic aspects of intercultural communication;
- linguocultural and psychological aspects of intercultural communication;
- peculiarities of the modern Russian language;
- languages for special purposes and intercultural professional communication;
- intercultural communication in the modern information society;
- psychological and pedagogical aspects of intercultural communication;
- multicultural education and problems of foreign students' socio-cultural adaptation;
- intercultural communication and translation theory studies.
