Last week RSMU hosted the round-table conference “Christianity and Islam: Common Ground” where the questions that bother young people living in a multicultural and multiconfessional society were discussed.
The goal of the meeting was to prevent religious tensions and extremism which is of great importance for the university with a thousand foreign students from 58 countries.
The participants of the conference were Orthodox Church representatives, members of Muslim Religious Association of Ryazan region, RSMU administration and students as well as Ryazan Religious Seminary students.
The meeting started with Rector Roman Kalinin`s opening speech: ‘This is not a problem solving meeting, we are here to get acquainted, find common ground, exchange cultures and share ideas on how to build a tolerant society’.
Drawing the conclusions of the conference, the participants especially noted the friendly atmosphere, agreed on the importance of such meetings and marked a number of topics to discuss at further meetings.
