Abdulai Abdul-Razak (Ghana) graduated RSMU (Faculty of International Students, specialization “General Medicine”) in 2016:
- I had decided to become a doctor long before I entered RSMU. I used to be a nurse at Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra before I came to Russia to study medicine.
I chose Russia because I knew the quality of Russian trained doctors in my country and the tuition fees were much cheaper in comparison with other countries.
After my 6-year course I returned to Ghana and currently I’m on my 3rd rotation at Police hospital in Accra. I worked as a general practitioner in my 1st rotation managing all obstetrics and gynecological problems. I did minor operations like Caesarean section, myomectomy as well as managed normal and complicated pregnancies to deliver safely. In my 2nd rotation I worked as general practitioner in managing all adult internal medical conditions like hypertension, diabetes, liver disease, heart conditions etc. In the 3rd rotation the same way I work as a GP in treating all kinds of pediatric conditions. The 4th rotation is going to be surgery which I will start in 3-month time.
In Ghana the above is known as housemanship training for all new qualified doctors, which is similar to a rotating internship, 6 moths in each field.
So in less than a year I’ll be posted as a medical officer to work for some years and then choose a field to specialize on.
Maybe after my housemanship I will go back to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital permanently.
I am happy about my career and thankful to Ryazan State Medical University!
