Last week our University had an honor to host one of the most important cultural events among all Russian medical universities – “The Xll Festival of Medical Students”. The festival gathered many brilliant and artistic students from different parts of Russia who were presenting their talents in numerous contests such as singing, dancing, theatre, original genres, journalism and others.
Remarkably, the festival represents the idea that a medical student is not only a future life-saver devoted to the higher moral aspirations and ideas, but also an ambassador of art and culture. As it was said in the opening ceremony, “an ideal medical student is the one who can heal a body through his or her knowledge and experience, and a soul through his or her love to art”.
Importantly, the international students studying at the Faculty of International Students (FOIS) of RSMU were selected by the university jury to represent our institution at the festival. A Ganian student Paul Asemuad showed incredible flexibility of his body in theatrical nomination. Tarik Ifri from Morocco impressed the jury with his amazing declaration of a Russian poem “Lala” written by a famous Russian poet Sergey Yesenin. Badis Debbeche, a 5-th grade student from Tunis, presented a beautiful song “Je ne regrette rien” that was a hallmark in the career of the famous French singer Edith Piaf. Furthermore, in the nomination of modern vocal, Mamuan Haunhar and Alicia Chinzah were singing a lovely lyrical song “I`m not gonna leave you” which made everybody`s hearts melt. And finally, the newly formed choir of South African students “Madiba” made a great success by singing a traditional song accompanied by sounds of African drums.
The dancing nomination was represented by RSMU international talents either. Halen Winsald created a strong and thoughtful solo traditional dance that represented struggle of Indian woman towards equality and happiness. An Indian duet, Sumaya Sayed and Vikash Kuntal, hypnotized the audience and the jury by their creative dance of shadows. Another piece of the fascinating Indian culture was presented by the dancing group “Jeyho-Tias”. And the final impressive performance was made by the street dance band “LG Group” with their stylish and unique “Zombie dance”.
Additionally, our international students prepared a colorful and bright fashion show of traditional costumes. And the instrumental boys band “Red Diplomas” pleased the audience with a mix of famous Spanish hits.
On the final day of the festival, 1st of April, the winners in each nomination were announced. Thus, the fashion show of national costumes got the second place. Helen Winsald was awarded with the second place in the nomination of traditional dances (solo). Sumaya Sayed and Vikash Kuntal got the third place for their amazing shadow dance and so did “LG Group” in the street dances nomination. And finally, the African choir “Madiba” got the second place among traditional choirs.
We would like to congratulate all the winners and to thank all the participants and visitors of this fascinating event!
